November 5, 2008 CCRAA Final Regulations Released![]() The final rules for changes to student loan provisions found in the College Cost Reduction and Access Act (CCRAA) were published in the October 23, 2008, Federal Register. >> Read more about the CCRAA final rules FTC “Red Flag” Rules AnnouncedThe U.S. Department of Education (ED) posted an announcement on Oct. 14 to inform institutions participating in the Perkins loan program that the FTC “red flag” rules apply to them. The rules may also apply to other credit programs administered by the institution. Institutional compliance was originally required by November 1, 2008; however, in a recent press release, the FTC announced that enforcement of these “Red Flag Rules” will be suspended until May 1, 2009. In September, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) unveiled College.gov, an online resource designed to provide credible information for students and parents about planning, preparing and paying for college. This Web site, developed with student input and participation, also includes advice from peers who are already attending college and encourages students to consider and pursue a postsecondary education. Teachers and counselors can also use the site to motivate students to investigate educational and career paths. Check out College.gov today!
