
Unemployment Deferment
Maximum Time Limit:
Borrowers with first loans made before July 1, 1993 - 24 months
Borrowers with first loans made on or after July 1, 1993 - 36 months
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this deferment, the borrower must be diligently seeking but unable to find full-time employment in the United States in any field or at any salary or responsibility level.
Additionally, the borrower must either provide documentation of eligibility for unemployment benefits or register with a private or public employment agency if there is one within 50 miles of the borrower's current address. If the borrower is requesting an extension of the current unemployment deferment, the borrower must certify that six diligent attempts for full-time employment has been made or provide documentation of eligibility for unemployment benefits.
All borrowers must reapply for the deferment every six months.
