Eligibility Criteria

Maximum Time Limit: Ends six months after you're demobilized from active duty service

Military deferment covers service while you're on active duty during a war, other military operation or national emergency, or performing qualifying National Guard duty during a war, military operation or national emergency. As a result, not all active duty military personnel are eligible for this deferment.

Documentation establishing eligible active duty service for the deferment may include a copy of your military orders or a written statement from your commanding officer or personnel officer stating you're serving on active duty during a war, other military operation or national emergency, or performing qualifying National Guard duty during a war, other military operation or national emergency.
