March 27, 2008 Higher Education Act Reauthorization UpdateBoth the Senate and House passed legislation to temporarily extend the programs under the Higher Education Act (HEA) for one month through April 30, 2008. The current extension expires March 31. >> Read more about HEA Reauthorization FFELP Lending Assured in OklahomaIn response to recent media attention about the continuing credit market impacts on student loan availability, the Consumer Banker's Association (CBA) and others have taken steps at the national level to assure schools that FFELP funding will be available this fall. To further educate students about the difference between federal and private loans, OGSLP has co-branded "Private Student Loans - A Guide to Responsible Borrowing," a brochure created by the National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs (NCHELP). Focusing on three main themes - research carefully, remember your obligations, and repay as promised - the brochure encourages students to exhaust all grant, scholarship, and Title IV Loan eligibility before considering private or alternative education loans.
