Legislative Update
There has been a flurry of legislative activity in the last week, including House and Senate action on Reauthorization and Budget Reconciliation. The House introduced the House College Cost Reduction Act (H.R. 2669) and Financial Aid Accountability and Transparency Act of 2007 (H.R. 1994). Action in the Senate included the Higher Education Access Reconciliation Act and the Higher Education Amendments of 2007. Click here to read more about pending legislation.
OGSLP’s Annual Conference a Great Day of Learning and Inspiration!
The OGSLP Annual Conference was held June 7 at Moore Norman Technology Center in Oklahoma City. The theme for this year’s event was "Everyday Heroes: Financial Aid Professionals," in honor of our customers who serve a very important role in helping Oklahoma students achieve their educational goals. OGSLP was fortunate to have guest speakers Brett Lief, president of the National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs (NCHELP) and Dr. Arnold Mitchem, president of the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE). 2007-2008 Interest Rates
Effective July 1, 2007, the interest rates on new FFELP loans will continue to be fixed at 6.80% for Federal Stafford loans and 8.50% for Federal PLUS loans. Additionally, the interest rates for variable rate loans disbursed between July 1, 1998 and June 30, 2006 are set at 6.62% for Federal Stafford loans during in-school, grace and deferment status and at 7.22% during repayment. The interest rate on Federal PLUS loans made between July 1, 1998 and June 30, 2006 is 8.02%. For more information, refer to ED's interest rate charts.
