OGSLP Legislative Update

President Signs HEA Extension

S.1704, the First Higher Education Extension Act of 2007 was signed by the president on July 3. The First Higher Education Extension Act of 2007 provides for a 30-day extension of the Higher Education Act (HEA). The HEA is temporarily extended through July 31, 2007.

Additionally, the House and Senate expect to meet this month to act on legislation concerning the student loan budget reconciliation. Therefore, it appears that there may be resolution to both the Higher Education Act Reauthorization and the budget reconciliation prior to the August recess.
