Reauthorization Bills
With the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act of 1965 in progress, there are numerous bills that have been introduced. NASFAA has provided a user-friendly chart (PDF) outlining key details of the major House and Senate reauthorization bills. Reauthorization is generally carried out every five years, whereby Congress reviews and either renews, terminates, or amends existing programs. The most recent reauthorization of the Act, as amended, was in 1998.

H.R. 3076 - Graduate Opportunities in Higher Education Act
H.R. 3077 - International Studies in Higher Education Act
H.R. 3039 - Expanding Opportunities in Higher Education Act
H.R. 3311 - Affordability in Higher Education Act
H.R. 3180 - College Opportunity for All Act
H.R. 3519 - College Affordability and Accountability Act, and
S. 1793 - College Quality, Affordability, and Diversity Improvement Act
In addition to the bills referenced in the NASFAA Chart, two additional bills have been introduced. They are:

1968 - Financial Literacy in Higher Education Act
This bill was introduced by Senator Michael Enzi on November 25, 2003 and
is designed to improve financial and economic literacy, education and counseling.

3613 - Student Aid Streamlined Disclosure Act of 2003
This bill was introduced by Representative Sam Johnson on November 21, 2003
and is designed to protect taxpayer privacy during the student loan process
while ensuring that financial aid goes to those who need it most.
