Military Mobilization Revisited: You may have already seen the Dear Colleague Letter DCL) GEN-03-06 that provides guidance for the treatment of students and borrowers who have been ordered to active military duty and for active military personnel whose duty station has been changed as a result of military mobilization.

Special Allowance Rates: The U.S. Department of Education ED) has released the special allowance rates for the quarter ending March 31, 2003.

What You Missed While Sleeping Through Civics Class: Approximately three weeks ago, both the House and Senate Budget Committees released their FY 2004 Budget Resolutions. The Budget Resolution focuses on the overall federal budget, not specific programs and is the first step in the Congressional budget process.

Student Loan Twist: You Owe If You Earn Christian Science Monitor): Instead of taking out loans, some college students are taking advantage of an alternative funding method called "human capital investments," from the nonprofit Robertson Education Empowerment Foundation REEF). Michael Robertson, a UC-San Diego Alum and Internet entrepreneur, established the foundation.

Revised Deferment Forms: As a result of regulatory changes that provide borrowers with greater flexibility, the Unemployment Deferment Request UNEM) and the Economic Hardship Deferment Request HRD) forms have been modified.

MYF and ACT Partner Up: Mapping Your Future has partnered with ACT, Inc. to provide the Make High School Count program for students, parents and middle school counselors. The program provides information about planning for education after high school - beginning in eighth grade.

Common Manual Update: The Common Manual Governing Board recently approved changes that modified policies contained in the July 2002 version of the Common Manual. These changes are identified in OGSLP's Common Manual Update CM-74).

Senate Bill 520 Creates the Oklahoma Tuition Equalization Grant Program: SB 520 creates the Oklahoma Tuition Equalization Grant program for students attending private colleges and universities.
