OGSLP Conference Promises Something for Everyone: Many have already registered for OGSLP's 4th Annual School/Lender Conference scheduled for June 20th at the Meridian Convention Center. The conference promises to be a day full of learning and fun for all attendees. Paper registration forms and final planned agendas are being mailed to clients.
New Interest Rates: The U.S. Department of Education (ED) has announced new interest rates that are the lowest in the history of student loans. Following are the new interest rates for FFELP Loans disbursed on or after July 1, 1998, for the period July 1, 2002 to June 30, 2003.
New Total and Permanent Disability Discharge Procedures: The good news is that the U.S. Department of Education (ED) has recently released a Dear Colleague Letter (GEN-02-03) outlining the new total and permanent disability procedures effective with disability preliminary determinations made by the lender/loan holder on or after July 1, 2002. The disappointing news is that the revised total and permanent disability discharge request form is not yet available. The student loan industry has developed a new information sheet (Supplemental Information for the Total and Permanent Disability Cancellation Request) to supplement the Total and Permanent Disability Cancellation Request form to provide borrowers with July 1, 2002, changes during this interim period until the revised form is available.
