College Graduation Checklist

Repaying your student loan is serious business. Take the necessary steps now to ensure that you know what you need to do before you enter repayment.

  1. Find your paperwork and review the terms and conditions of your loan. Remember the promissory note is legally binding and it obligates you to repay your student loan.

  2. Go through exit interview process at your school. Remember that the exit interview is a FEDERAL requirement and not a school requirement.

  3. Stay in touch with your loan holder. Update your loan holder on address and phone number changes. If you can't make a payment, notify your loan holder BEFORE the payment due date.

  4. Don't remember your loan holder? Visit the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) at www.nslds.ed.gov and view a summary of your student loans.

  5. Don't default on your student loan! There are serious ramifications to default, including adverse, long-term effect it has on your credit rating. Contact your loan holder for help!
